What can I say? Allan Savory is truly an inspiration and it was such a pleasure to meet him. I have seen first hand how his ideas can create a transformation not only in the landscape but the ecology as well. People have a more positive attitude towards agriculture when they understand how ecological health is fundamental to sustainable and profitable farming.

I first heard of Allan as young girl when Dad read his book ‘Holistic Management’ back in 1993. After the reading the book Dad said he “realised the way we were making decisions about land management was flawed and also our decision making in general”.

Dad travelled to South Africa in 1998 to the Holistic Management Conference where he also spoke with Allan. He has practiced Holistic Management on a farm for 13 years and  he uses the decision making process still today even though he is no longer on the land. He continues however as an regenerative agricultural educator and adviser.

Allan inspired my Dad to take on a different approach to farming even though he became known as ‘the mad man in the tin shed on the top of the hill’ for his strange way of farming. No one however could deny his methods work after seeing the transformation made. It was then I believed more than ever that working with Nature makes a lot more sense then working against it. We are a part of ecosystem too.

It’s not easy to compete with nature and as you will see in my interview nature conquered. The birds were having their voice heard! They are only noisy at the start and then your able to hear the interview more clearly (unfortunately I couldn’t edit the sounds out). So here it is My interview with Allan Savoury vs the noisy Australian birds…

Holistic Management, restoring deserts, a hopeful future,
